Special Exhibition Featuring Felix Hampton Brown

FELIX HAMPTON BROWN, spoken word performer, singer, painter, sculptor, and fashion designer was a favorite model of the legendary Robert Mapplethorpe, appearing in Vanity Fair, Runner’s World and in Mapplethorpe’s The Black Book. From Mapplethorpe To Minneapolis reflects his maturity as a artist, his victory over drugs and homelessness, and his connection to the local arts community.

Felix paints on found materials such as coffee bags, featuring bold nudes and references to slavery and black exploitation. Images break down into a swirl of African inspired abstracts that mirror the conflict and tension between the dominant culture and African Americans continuing to this day.

Opening Night Reception

Felix will be performing portions of his spoken word performance Martin, Malcolm and Me, a conversation between Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and the artist. Refreshments, door prizes and demos, and Felix’s fabulous fashion designs featured.
